We Have a Big Dream and We Need Your Help!

Blue Nile Children's Organization is run by a small staff and volunteers, both in Seattle and in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Many of our projects can be benefited by additional volunteers or interns. If you are interested in working for BNCO or would like to comment or ask questions please contact us!

This project will consist of two elements. First, we will provide a primary care clinic offered on a payscale basis to the local community of Kolfe-Keranio. The project will also consist of an education center. The clinic will offer basic services for maternal and newborn care, infectious diseases, well-child visits and prevention techniques. The educational seminars will teach the local population about prevention of HIV/AIDS, malaria, water sanitation, other infectious diseases and family planning. Through these two methods, BNCO aims to reach out to the community and increase their understanding of infectious diseases. Currently there is a stigma regarding AIDS and its transmission, which has alienated the children in BNCO's Sponsorship Program, from their community. With the educational seminars, BNCO wishes to rid the community of this stigma, and work with them in making the children's lives better.

It is important not only to take care of the orphans in Ethiopia, but to work to prevent the root problems that are causing children to be orphaned every day.
